Workshop: The Human Right to a Healthy Environment: What Impact on Intellectual Property Laws? (4 December 2024)

This IViR workshop event will include a series of sessions focussing on the impact on IP laws of the human right to a healthy environment, which was recently recognised as a self-standing right by the UN. The event will take place on location in Amsterdam, and online via Zoom.

4iP Council Webinar on Leveraging Geographical Indications (GIs): Benefits, Types, and Registration Essentials (5 December 2024)

In this webinar, in which Fernanda Donaire Passoni will host a discussion with EUIPO experts Javier Guillem Carrau and Roberto d’Erme, the speakers will will dive into the essentials of Geographical Indications (GIs); learn about the types of GIs, the reasons they are invaluable for safeguarding regional quality, and the practical steps to register and use GIs to strengthen your product’s market positioning.

Book launch: The Future of Geographical Indications (12 December 2024)

The launch event of the book “The Future of Geographical Indications: European and Global Perspectives”, edited by Dr Enrico Bonadio and Dr Andrea Zappalaglio, will take place on 12 December 2024, at the Moot Court Room of The City Law School or online.

10th OxFirst IP and Competition Forum (13 January 2025)

OxFirst, an Oxford-based IP law and economics consultancy is hosting the 10th Intellectual Property and Competition Forum at the University of Oxford on Saturday, January 13th, 2024.

The conference will feature keynote addresses from Dr. Klaus Grabinski, the Presiding Judge of the Unified Patent Court and from The Rt. Hon. WIPO-WTO Colloquium (3 – 14 February 2025)

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) are teaming up to organize the 20th edition of the colloquium for teachers and researchers of IP law and policy from developing and least-developed members and observers. 

The colloquium will take place from 3 to 14 February 2025 at both WIPO and WTO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. For further information, click here

Opportunities

2024 Irena Wiszniewska-Białecka International Prize in competition law, antitrust, patents and trademarks law

The Jerzy Wiszniewski Foundation is running the first edition of this competition, which was created to honour the legacy of the first Polish judge at the General Court of the EU, Prof. Irena Wiszniewska-Białecka. 

The deadline for submissions is 31 December 2024, and there are two prizes available: a prize of 20,000 USD for the best work based on advanced research, and an additional, second prize for best master thesis in the amount of 5,000 EUR.

ALAI European Authors’ Right Award 

The submission deadline for the annual award, which is supported by GESAC and given to the writer of the best essay relating to authors’ rights, has now been extended to 30 November 2024.  For further information on eligibility criteria and how to apply, click here

 

WIPO Job Opportunity 

WIPO is looking to hire one or more copyright enforcement experts to work (remotely) on a project  involving the preparation of a study mapping online copyright piracy in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, as well as developing tools and strategy to combat such piracy.
