As we end the 2024 calendar year, I wanted to take a look at where patent applications stand at the USPTO.  As the chart below shows, nearly 60% of pending utility patent applications have not yet received their first office action, while more than 25% are awaiting some form of applicant response. These statistics raise important questions about both examination delays and applicant behavior.
