1: Major Anime Piracy Website Suddenly Stops Adding New Content

First off, today, Laura Gassert at GameRant reports that several popular anime piracy websites, including GoGo Anime, have stopped publishing new content, leading users to believe that the site will shut down soon.

A similar pattern has been seen in other pirate websites where they stop their regular uploads and then, weeks later, shutter permanently. The most notable example is FMovies, which was shuttered earlier this year.

The radio silence comes amid increasing pressure on anime/manga pirate sites. Rightsholders and officials in Japan and South Korea have been cracking down on pirate websites. No official announcement about the future of GoGo Anime has been made.

2: TorrentGalaxy’s Troubles Silence Popular Upload Bots

Next up today, Ernesto Van der Sar at Torrentfreak writes that another popular piracy site, TorrentGalaxy has also gone silent. The site has not been accessible for nearly a week due to apparent technical issues.

Though it’s one of the most popular BitTorrent websites, its outage impacts other pirate sites. This is because many of the upload bots use content from TorrentGalaxy, meaning that other pirate sites aren’t getting populated with the latest works.

One of those bots, TGxGoodies, submitted nearly 5,000 torrents to other sites in November. However, those releases have halted due to TorrentGalaxy’s outage. It isn’t known if this is due to purely technical issues or copyright enforcement actions.

3: Raygun Musical Cancelled After Viral Olympian’s Legal Threat

Finally, today, Emma Rossiter at the BBC reports that Australian breakdancer Rachel Gunn, better known as Raygun, has sent a cease-and-desist letter to the producers of a parody musical, claiming that the performance violated her intellectual property.

According to the notice, the musical violated her trademark in her name and various elements of her choreography. The theater opted to cancel the test performance and refund patrons who had already purchased tickets.

However, the theater said it plans to bring the musical back soon. To avoid rights issues, it said it would change certain elements, such as the spelling of Raygun, and make other alterations.
